Episode 30 - The Barefoot Girl

Utena hears Wakaba and Tatsuya talking about first kisses and wonders if that was what she had with the prince when she was young. Wakaba comes by later after Akio bakes a cake. Utena is somewhat embarrassed and acts rather uptight around Akio. Wakaba tells her if she doesn't loosen up, she will never fall in love.

Utena is getting harassed by the guidance councilor and head teacher about her uniform when Akio steps in and saves her. He tells her he admires her style and that they are close friends. As they walk to his car, Wakaba shows up and asks Akio if she can go riding with him. When Utena moves to join them, Wakaba stops her, saying a date is just for two people.

The next day in school, Wakaba tells Utena about the drive, and Utena wonders if she is jealous. These thoughts seem to haunt her, and during a basketball game, when she thinks she sees Akio watching from a window, she takes a bad fall and hurts her ankle.

Anthy is helping Utena to the nurse when Akio drives up. He says he will take Utena to the hospital, but doesn't allow Anthy to come, repeating what Wakaba said about a date being for two people.

On the drive back, Utena, nervous, tries to talk about his engagement to Kanae. Akio just smiles. When the reach home, Akio offers to carry her up, which flusters Utena even more. She says that he doesn't act like a chairman, he says they both ignore what people tell them, and therefore they are two of a kind. Utena tries to speak of her prince, but the two end up kissing in the front seat of the Akio car.

In bed that night, Utena wonders if it there are certain people that you shouldn't fall in love with. Anthy does nothing to discourage her, adding only that she loves her prince. Driving with Akio, Touga finds Utena's shoe in his car. At Akio's prompting, he admits he has fallen for her.

The next day Utena seems a bit upset. Kanae shows up with her mother, who wishes to speak with Akio privately. She asks Akio if he has been ignoring Kanae, he denies it. Akio then seduces her much the way he did Utena, and she calls him her only prince.

In the classroom once more, Utena tries to convince herself that the one she loves is her prince.
